Boracay Moments: Our 2024 Short Travel Story in Astoria Current

There’s a reason Boracay Island continues to be one of the most loved beach destinations in the Philippines. With its powdery white sand and stunning sunsets, it never really goes out of style. For our 2024 trip, we chose Boracay Island and stay at Astoria Current, located in the quieter Station 3 area. Known for its modern design and more laid-back atmosphere, it offered a different side of Boracay—less crowded, more relaxed, but still just as beautiful. Here’s our honest experience as a group and what we did during our short stay here.

This is actually my fourth time coming to Boracay but this is the first time we traveled by air as a group and held our annual company outing outside Luzon. It took us almost half a year just to save for our budget and have our lovely staff experience the white sands of Boracay (because they truly deserve it!).

Our travel dates were from the afternoon of November 15 to the afternoon of November 17. Our schedule ended up being shortened due to the limited availability of airline seats that could accommodate all of us. So, I booked the best option available, which meant taking afternoon flights.

I kind of regretted booking it that way, though, because our time in Boracay felt really squeezed into those three days but since there’s no other choice, we just have to make it worthwhile. 🥲

Booking mistakes aside, we were actually lucky enough to witness the majestic sunset throughout our entire jetty ride, all the way until we arrived on the island. My parents usually book morning or earlier trips here in Caticlan before, so seeing the sun set while riding the speedboat felt like a rare and special experience for me.

My previous trips to Boracay were with my family during my college days. They were all fun, but I can’t recall much of them now because I never left any “footprints” like this blog, nor did I make time to write and share them on my socials. We used to have lots of activity before like parasailing, banana boat, flying fish, jetski and etc. I’ve experienced them all but they’re just a part of my memories now.

I used to love blogging back in high school, and that passion never really left me. I still love writing—I still love sharing my journey on the web. However, my priorities changed over a decade ago, and life simply happened. It feels like ten years of my life passed by so quickly—and it almost went unnoticed. 🥲

Now that I’m starting to write again, it feels like I’m reconnecting with a part of myself that had been missing all this time. And I swear- you’ll be reading more from me and seeing more of me from here on out. HAHA

My mom actually owns a timeshare from AVLCI (Astoria Vacation and Leisure Club Inc.) so our stay here was on her account, and we are really happy and grateful for the experience. So during the first night, we ate dinner in an unlimited buffet worth Php299.00 per head and spent the entire time soaking ourselves in the 25-meter pool until 10pm.

As you can see, there was no crowd other than us and it felt really exclusive, plus the awkward ambiance of seeing a few strangers eating their dinner on the other side of the pool. I was unable to take a photo of it though, because… it simply left my mind; 😅 I’ll make sure to capture more photos of the hotel rooms and amenities next time. 😁

As for the second day, our initial plan was for everyone to wear anything in color white. I was the one who instigated the act and yet I was also the one who wore something opposed to our theme, so my hubby and I, as well as my brother and in-laws, unnecessarily went to the ‘D Talipapa Market’ to buy something white and fit in with the crew. Haha

We weren’t able to do many activities on the second day. As much as we wanted to make the trip unforgettable—like riding the banana boat or trying the flyfish—our budget was limited, and there was also a looming threat of a typhoon named “Pepito.” Although the locals were still offering these activities on the other side of the island, we decided not to risk our safety.

It was actually a very sunny day in Boracay, but we chose to play it safe. In the end, we still managed to let everyone enjoy a mini pictorial using the crystal kayak, as well as paddleboarding for those who wanted to try it. Some of the girls had their hairs braided as they wait for their turn on the crystal kayak.

The first half of the afternoon was spent on the beach, then from 3pm till before the sunset, we all stayed on the pool lounge area to eat those tasty nachos, have cocktail drinks and watch the kids play on the kiddie pool while we joke about anything and talk about our plans for the future as a small company.

During sunset, we went back to the beach and watched the beauty of the horizon as the sun slowly turns the sky into different hues of red and orange. It was during these kinds of moments that felt so perfectly aligned being at the right time, right place and at the right moment with the people you love.

The day came to a close as we celebrated my uncle’s birthday with a fun dinner, complete with videoke. We had rented the entire Bright Horizon Hall on the second floor of Astoria Current, which made the celebration even more special.

It had been a long day for all of us—despite having fewer activities, we spent most of our time bonding and swimming together. By the end of the night, everyone was feeling sleepy and tired, so we headed to bed around 10 PM to prepare for our flight home the next morning.

We headed back home with my parents, riding a coaster from the jetty port to Caticlan Airport since we couldn’t all fit in a van. Astoria Current’s transport service was super accommodating, which made everything so much easier.

Safe to say, this trip may not have been packed with activities—but it was full of moments that made it all worth it. Definitely coming back soon. ✨

And that concludes our company trip to Boracay! It was reallyy short, but it was still packed with precious bonding moments with each other that can never be taken back in this lifetime. I hope we could provide them with more activities and longer trips next time. Thank you so much for reading my blog post!
